This is a common question, usually done by someone that is waiting for you to come to him/her. Now it’s easy to be answered through internet if you own a mobile phone with GPS receiver:

trackr!

You only need a mobile phone with a data plan (for example GPRS or UMTS). You also need a GPS receiver (as a seperate device or builtin). trackr! currently works on the following mobile phone types:

  • Windows Mobile 5 and 6 (PocketPC and Smartphone).
  • Java phones with support for MIDP2.0 (Nokia E50, N73, N95, Sony Ericsson C702, etc.).
  • Blackberry

With trackr! you can…

  • share your current location and track history with your friends
  • see on your mobile phone or on the trackr! website where your friends are
  • view what tracks you or your friends have traveled: distance, average speed, etc.
  • receive a warning when someone enters and/or leaves a certain area (geo-fencing)
  • Put photos on the map next to your track exactly where you shot them.
  • Automatically send updates to your Twitter and Hyves accounts as soon as you are online.
  • include a map with your current position on your own website/blog
  • use the Quick Access Code to immediately show others where you are at that moment, without requiring them to create trackr! account

Check out some screenshots.
trackr! is FREE for personal use.

My username there is Saxtus, so if you know me in real life, register yourself at trackr!, request friendship and I might allow you to see my whereabouts!

I was seeking for a utility that can imitate the Windows Vista search functionality that is embedded in “Start Menu” and I came across a wonderful and light program that is called Launchy.

It keeps hidded until it’s needed. Alt-Spacebar is the default key combination to bring it up but can be changed if it conflicts with something else. Launchy can index just the “Start Menu” or all the files on your disk (or the file types you specify). You bring it up, start typing and will tell you what will find, highlight what you want and press Enter. That’s it! If you want to supply command line parameters, press TAB before ENTER and type the parameters.

It can be told to re-index automatically every X minutes but I have disabled that as I use it only for Start Menu and re-indexing is two clicks away anyway! It has it’s own plug-in system to extend functionality but unil now, I haven’t find something interesting. It also has different skins to choose to.

Go get it now, it’s open-source and completely free!
